John Legend carries a heavy heart with the sad news of his grandmother’s passing away on Tuesday 2 February.

The family’s beloved matriarch, Marjorie Maxine Stephens, died in the early hours of the morning, just days short of her 91st birthday.

And in a gripping tribute on Instagram, the 11-time Grammy winner honors ‘her full blessed life’ by painting the picture of a woman who was an eternal light of love and support for her family until her last moments on Planet Earth.

“We are so grateful for the life she lived, for the love she shared with her many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and beyond,” Legend (born John Roger Stephens) shared in his long tribute.

The Heaven musician calls her ‘the caring and conscientious grandmother you could imagine’, who sent all her immediate family birthday cards with money until her death.

“She hosted our annual Christmas celebrations until we literally could not fit in her little pink house on Heard Avenue in Springfield, Ohio,” he continued.

Legend shared a point of telling how his grandmother in her last years was still ‘active and full of curiosity and energy’, and that she remained a stalwart with her unconditional love and support for the family.

‘I’m so glad she had to see the fruits of everything she’s given us. She had to travel the world with us, went to my first Grammys. She had to experience the successes of all her offspring, ‘he said with clear pride.

“We are the family we are, the individuals we are because of the love she has poured out in us.”

The Ohio resident concluded by celebrating a good life.

‘We are sad to lose her, but appreciate the full, blessed life she has lived. May she rest in peace after hosting a wonderful race. ‘
