Joe Judge to hire fired Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt to Giants staff

Joe Judge seems to be making an addition to his Giants coaching staff, with the expected appointment of Jeremy Pruitt certainly an interesting development.

Pruitt, 46, was fired as head coach in Tennessee on Jan. 18 after a school-based investigation revealed widespread violations in the football program. The university will not pay its $ 12.6 million buyout to Pruitt.

Pruitt’s role at the Giants has yet to be announced. The coaching position outside the lineout is open with the departure of Bret Bielema to Illinois. Pruitt was a defensive back coach and defense coordinator in the college lineup. He was in Tennessee in three years with 16-19, last season with 3-7.

Although Pruitt has no coaching experience in the NFL, he is familiar with Judge, as the two from 2009-11 worked together in Nick Saban’s staff in Alabama.

There’s another Giants connection for Pruitt. Their coach, Kevin Sherrer, was Pruitt’s defensive coordinator in Tennessee before joining Judge’s staff last season.
