Jets general manager Joe Douglas met with the media on Tuesday to discuss the way forward for a team coming into the 2-14 season, and whether Sam Darnold (quarterback) will be involved.
As team chairman Christopher Johnson did Monday, Douglas found good things to say about Darnold and what the future holds for him in the NFL. He also joined Johnson to prevent him from saying that the first round of 2018 in 2021 will be with the team again.
Douglas said any call will wait until the team has appointed a head coach.
“Look, we have to make a lot of decisions,” Douglas told SNY.tv. “I think Sam will be a good quarterback. I’m excited to get a head coach in here, going through our process. Had a wonderful conversation with Sam yesterday. I will not consider the details, but I think Sam has a very bright future in this league. So we’ll get a head coach here, we’ll get together and talk about quite a few decisions. ”
Douglas was asked if Darnold, who missed four games with a shoulder injury, fell back during a season that dropped him 11 interceptions and nine times. Douglas said Darnold “faced many hurdles this year” while noticing injuries on the offensive line and wide receiver, but it will take a minute or two before we know if it’s a mulligan in a gloomy season earn.
