Neon Genesis Evangelion is so dense with symbolic meaning that it can be easy to overlook some of the smaller, simpler ways in which the series uses seemingly everyday objects the characters keep Dear to convey their thoughts and feelings about ideas like love and pain in the story being told.

Even though Gendo Ikari is the only core Gospel character who consistently wears glasses means the glasses quite to others –llike his emotionally fragile son Shinji and Rei, the enigmatic young Eva pilot holding old, broken Gendo glasses as a souvenir. As the series progresses, you can see how Gendo’s glasses are actually one of the very solid, translucent surfaces that characters interact with feel like different ways Gospel‘s try to point to the existence of absolute terror fields, the harsh light projections that Evangelion and Angels use to defend themselves and attack each other.

One can spend hours thinking about the importance of the way people deal with glasses. Gospel and whether it’s just simplified, miniaturized socially acceptable AT fields that people carry on their faces. Or … you can just have a official licensed pair? While the glasses do not scream immediately Gospel At first glance, if you look closer, you can see the subtle nod for the two Eva pilots in small detail, based on their respective techno-organic mechs. The sunglasses are obviously something of a different story, as it is quite difficult not to recognize what the purple frames are for.
