The Jets decide on the future of Sam Darnold, but it’s not a decision they want to make.

Before the Jets decide what to do with Darnold, the Jets will evaluate all the top backs in the draft, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

These evaluations will include all of the players’ Pro Day workouts, plus individual interviews with the players, so it’s likely to be close to draft before the Jets have done a thorough evaluation of what they want to do with the second overall pick and what they want to do with Darnold.

The Jaguars are expected to take Trevor Lawrence of Clemson with the first overall pick. At No. 2, the Jets are likely to decide among BYU’s Zach Wilson, Justin Fields in Ohio State, Trey Lance in North Dakota and Mac Jones in Alabama.

Darnold has one more year left on his rookie contract, and the Jets are not expected to make his fifth-year option. The Jets can either try to trade Darnold, or give another year with a new coaching staff to show what he can do.
