The quarterback carousel is spinning out of control in the NFL.
On Saturday, the Detroit Lions exchanged Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff and three yards, including some first-round picks. But several teams, including the New York Jets, signed Stafford before the Lions packed him.

The Jets, as you well know, are still linked in trade rumors to the Texans, though Houston denies buying 25-year-old quarterback Deshaun Watson, who asked for a trade.
Monday on The Dan Patrick Show, Albert Breer of SI, put together the pieces of the puzzle for the Jets, and it does not look good for Sam Darnold’s future in New York.
I can tell you that the New York Jets were one of the teams that signed up at Stafford. And I do not think they would go where the Rams go, but you know what it is, Dan? I mean, a few other teams, it was a smoke signal to them. Like, OK, like if you make a call to Matthew Stafford, by deductive reasoning, does that mean you’m moving on from Sam Darnold? And if you might be moving in from Sam Darnold, am I putting together an offer now? You know what I mean? Or do I see what you might be willing to do with him?
So I think there are certain parts of the Stafford agreement that lead to other things, and once again, the Texans are going to call Watson by nature. But now that other teams that need quarterbacks who want a young quarterback see the Jets pick up the phone and call the Lions, if you’re one of the teams, do you pick up the phone and call the Jets over Darnold? I just think it’s fascinating and it obviously plays into the second overall choice. Now the Jets are watching Zach Wilson of Justin Fields there? This is where all the moving parts with this will be so interesting over the next few months.
