JetBlue’s cheapest tickets do not include free storage for overhead drums

Jet Blue passengers booking cheap flights should be prepared to take less luggage with them.

Passengers who purchase JetBlue’s “Blue Basic” tickets will have to pay extra to carry a bag stored in overhead bins from July 20, the company said in a memorandum on Tuesday.

JetBlue said it would only allow customers to purchase its standard fares, including the Blue, Blue Extra and Mint business class tickets for domestic flights.

“From July 20, our Blue Basic rates purchased on or after February 25 will be limited to one personal item that fits under the seat,” JetBlue President and COO Joanna Geraghty said in the memo.

As airlines continue to struggle during the pandemic due to less booked travel, the New York-based airline continues to compete with competitors like Spirit by lowering its prices. Similarly, United Airlines also charges customers with basic economy tickets for overhead space.

JetBlue says if there is no more space in overhead bins, those who bought tickets with handbags included will receive a $ 25 travel credit that is valid for one year.
