McClintock “died peacefully in her sleep” on February 16, the obituary said.
McClintock was best known for her dresses, especially bridal and prom designs “based on the ideal of romance and beauty,” wrote Steve Rubenstein of the Chronicle. “Her name has become synonymous with milestone events in a woman’s life … baptism, prom, graduation, engagement and marriage,” he writes.
The website says the Jessica McClintock brand is an ideal of romance. “Jessica was an early proponent of the concept of empowering young women and women of all ages to live their best lives with confidence,” he says.
McClintock is survived by her son Scott and will be buried with her family in Presque Isle, Maine. According to Chronicle’s obituary, a celebration of her life in San Francisco is planned later in San Francisco.
