Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah becomes a popular choice for Browns: NFL mockery in 2021

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Another week of national mockery concepts has brought little consensus. But Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah was a popular choice.

The Notre Dame linebacker appears several times in our summary of how draft analysts view the Browns in the first round on April 29th.

Here’s a summary, which analysts had to say about their Browns choices. Keep in mind that some of these mocking concepts were published before the Browns signed Jadeveon Clowney on April 14th.

JEREMIAH OWUSU-KORAMOAH, LB, NOTRE DAME

Steve Palazzolo, Pro Football Focus: The depth card certainly says linebacker is a need, but that’s not why Owusu-Koramoah is a good fit for the Browns. It’s excellent value at this point in the concept, and JOK offers another versatile cover at the back in Cleveland. He is a lineout player in his name, but in Notre Dame he has entered the track 411 times in his career with an 85.2 degree and his overall coverage of 89.6 is 13th among 121 recent NFL caliber lineout prospects. While newcomers to today’s NFL have a tough transition, JOK should become one of Cleveland’s best players in the coming year.

Luke Easterling, Draft Wire: This defense has added some important pieces in the free agency (John Johnson III, Jadeveon Clowney, Anthony Walker), but the position in the lineout ball can still use an athletic three-way presence. Owusu-Koramoah is a versatile defender who can act anywhere on the field, as a linebacker and a safety, and can make a big impact on the game.

Charley Casserly, NFL.com: Even after the signing of Jadeveon Clowney, the Browns add another talented defender who will have an immediate impact on pass coverage.

AZEEZ OJULARI, EDGE, GEORGIA

Charles Davis, NFL.com: Ojulari is a powerful, determined passer who can wreak havoc. The Browns recently signed Jadeveon Clowney to a one-year deal, but Ojulari could be DE Myles Garrett’s long-term teammate.

CHRISTIAN BARMORE, DL, ALABAMA

Ryan Wilson, CBS Sports: The team released Sheldon Richardson, but in any case the defense had to get better. With the addition of Jadeveon Clowney, the Browns may decide to address the inside line first, and Barmore comes on a strong 2020 season for the Crimson Tide.

JAMIN DAVIS, LB, KENTUCKY

Tyler Sullivan, CBS Sports: Cleveland has quietly had one of the best seasons in the NFL so far. The success now opens the Browns to go in this direction in a number of directions, but Davis offers a potential diamond in the rough. He put together a strong pro-day and just scratched his potential.

JAELEN PHILLIPS, EDGE, MIAMI

Oliver Hodgkinson, Pro Football Network: … Clowney has only been signed for a one-year deal, and there is no guarantee he can come in and have the impact the Browns need. That’s why I still have the position in this 2021 NFL Mock Draft with 2021’s defensive end Jaelan Phillips. If you remove the injuries that hang over Phillips, he is by far the best fit in the class for me. He is fast, strong and has several pass-rush movements in his toolbox.

KWITY PAYE, EDGE, MICHIGAN

Maurice Jones-Drew, NFL.com: Paye is one of the more explosive pass-passers in the draft and a perfect complement to Myles Garrett on the other side of the Cleveland defense front.
