Singer Jennifer Lopez and former New York Yankees baseball player Alex Rodriguez said on Saturday that they were “working through some things” and that reports of them falling apart after nearly four years together were inaccurate.
The well-known website TMZ, the New York Post’s Page Six and several entertainment websites, on Friday cited unknown sources near the couple, who are sometimes known in the media as J-Rod, and said they had stopped their engagement.
“All the reports are inaccurate. We are working on a few things, ‘Lopez, 51, and Rodriguez, 45, one of the most famous couples in the United States, told Reuters in a joint statement.
The Love Don’t Cost a Thing singer and Rodriguez, known as A-Rod, started dating in early 2017 and announced their engagement in March 2019.
An unnamed source told People magazine the couple were never officially separated, but talked about it.
“They hit a rough patch,” the source said, adding that rumors linking A-Rod to a TV worker “did not affect the rough patch at all.”
‘She works in the Dominican Republic and he’s in Miami. “It’s hard to see each other, especially with quarantine and Covid,” the source told People.
Lopez, who sang during Joe Biden’s inauguration in January, said the couple postponed their wedding twice late last year due to the pandemic.
She began her career as a dancer and singer, and produced and starred in the 2019 film Hustlers.
Rodriguez retired in 2016 after a 22-year career in which he hit 696 home runs, thus placing him fourth on the Major League Baseball everyday home list.
