Former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said Sunday he hopes Americans will realize the Trump presidency was a “failed experiment.”
Johnson, who served under former President Obama as Secretary of Homeland Security, told CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS” that he thinks history will not remember the Trump presidency and “those who kindly supported it,” even though The Senate decided not to convict Trump of inciting the riots in the Capitol earlier this month.
“Four years ago we took part in a very dangerous experiment by choosing someone who was absolutely unqualified for his office, who had no moral or legal compass and honestly had impulses on fascism and autocracy,” Johnson said. .
“My hope is that over time, Americans will realize that this was a failed experiment and that we should never try it again,” he continued. ‘Just look at the consequences over the last four years.

Johnson told Zakaria that he was hoping the Senate would vote to condemn the president, but said it was ultimately “the American voters” to decide whether Trump could qualify as a future candidate.
