In perhaps the ultimate gift, Jeff Bezos surprises his mother, Jacklyn Bezos, by revealing the name of the rocket-catching recovery boat for his space company Blue Origin, calling it the Jacklyn in honor of her. While the 600-foot ship was purchased back in 2018, it has since been refurbished, and now renamed, for its new position as a floating landing zone for the first phase of Blue Origin’s emerging heavy lift rocket, known as the New Glenn.
Bezos spread the news by posting a video of his mother dipping the boat with champagne on his Instagram.
The Jacklyn is necessary because New Glenn’s first phase is reusable. In fact, the rocket’s first phase was designed to be reused up to 25 times.
