Amazon’s Fire TV entertainment platform will hit the road in Jeep’s 2022 Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs, which are the first to offer built-in Fire TV support.
The upcoming Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer will be formally announced on March 11, but Jeep’s parent company, Stellantis, has given a preview by announcing the new Amazon integration today.
The Amazon software is available from both the main screen and the rear seat screens. (Jeep says a privacy filter will prevent the driver from watching Prime Video content while driving, although they can watch if the cars are parked.)
Fire TV for Auto is designed to work with Uconnect 5, with added support for Amazon’s Alexa Auto technology for things like smart home control. There is also a custom Fire TV remote control with an integrated Alexa microphone and an Uconnect button to easily access things like temperature control or in-car maps. Users can also download compatible content for longer trips where they cannot or do not want to use data to stream their favorite shows and movies.
The addition of Fire TV is the latest in a trend that car manufacturers are increasingly on board, with software from major tech companies. These include the expansion of Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay to deeper integrations such as the Polestar 2, which originally ran Android Automotive.
Fire TV for Auto will be available in the US, Canada and Mexico in the fall of 2021.
