Jay-Z, Carole King and Tina Turner are nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Jay-Z, Carole King and Tina Turner lead the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees as 2021 is the most racially popular class of potential honors in 15 years.

In addition to the recognition of seven female nominees, this year is also the the most racially popular class of potential nominees since 2006, with ‘nine total artists being colored’, according to Yahoo.

“This remarkable mood reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music that celebrates the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” said John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, in a statement.

He continues: “These nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world, influencing many of the artists who have followed them.”

Other female nominees include Mary J. Blige, Dionne Warwick, Kate Bush, Chaka Khan and The Go-Go’s.

Both King and Turner have previously teamed up with the 79-year-old It Too Late singer, who earned the non-performing artist category in 1989, and the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll (81) as part of the duo Ike & Tina Turner. .

It is surprising that this is the first nomination of The Go-Go, despite the fact that more than forty years have passed since their debut album Beauty and the Beat was dropped, making it the only entirely self-written album by a female band, which played their own instruments, continue to go number one on the Billboard Hot 200.

In their first year of eligibility, rapper Jay-Z and the Foo Fighters also garnered nominations.

Other nominees include Devo, LL Cool J, the New York Dolls, Rage Against the Machine and Todd Rundgren.

Fans can participate in the corpse selection process until April 30 by voting at the Hall of Fame or at the museum in Cleveland.

“The five best artists chosen by the public will have a fan vote that will be discussed with the other ballot papers to select the 2021 candidates,” according to CNN.
