Java’s fire ring continues: Indonesian volcanoes erupt – in photos | World News

Volcanoes in Java are still showing alarming signs, and authorities are closely monitoring seismic activity as they blow lava and many kilometers into the atmosphere.

Mount Semeru in East Java is 3,676 meters (12,060 feet) and is one of the highest volcanoes in Indonesia. Mount Merapi in downtown Java is an active 2,929-meter (9,610-foot) volcano with a hiking trail to its summit and a surrounding national park. Both are bothering the authorities.

On January 16, 2021, the Semeru Volcano Observatory issued an aviation alert warning that an ash cloud was moving north-east with an ash cloud peak at about 5,676 meters (18163 feet) above sea level, but it could be higher than that can be clearly observed.
