Jared Porter: New York Mets fire chief after allegedly sending explicit photos to female reporter

ESPN reported that Porter sent unsolicited, explicit texts and photos, which “came out with a photo of an upright, naked penis” to the female reporter while working for the Chicago Cubs as director of the professional reconnaissance team and special assistant.
Mets owner Steven Cohen tweeted Tuesday morning: “We ended Jared Porter this morning. In my first press conference, I talked about the importance of integrity and I mean it. There should be no tolerance for this kind of behavior.”

According to ESPN, Porter allegedly sent 62 texts, including seven photos to the reporter that were not answered.

ESPN said it received the messages and images in December 2017 and questioned the reporter, but at the time chose not to report the allegations after the woman said her career would be harmed if the story was released.

CNN attempts to reach Porter for comment.

Mets president Sandy Alderson announced the following statement on Tuesday. “The New York Mets have terminated General Manager Jared Porter, who is in effect immediately. Jared’s actions, as reflected by the events announced last night, do not meet Mets’ standards of professionalism and personal conduct.”

Porter participates in a Zoom call in December.

ESPN contacted Porter on Monday night and he apparently acknowledged the SMS with the woman. ESPN reports that he initially said he did not send any photos of himself, but when the network confronted him about how text messages showed he had sent photos, Porter reportedly told ESPN: “The more explicit is not from not me. It’s like jokes. ”

The unidentified woman told ESPN: “My biggest motivation is that I want to prevent it from happening to anyone else,” she said through an interpreter. “It’s clear he’s in a much bigger position of power. I want to prevent that from happening again. The other thing is, I never really got the idea that he was really sorry.”

According to ESPN, Porter apologized to the woman via text message in 2016 after she allegedly told him that his messages were ‘extremely inappropriate, very offensive and out of line’.
