During an appearance on ‘The Late Show’ Thursday night, the actor talked about returning to the iconic DC villain.
Jared Leto makes his return as the Joker in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which premiered on HBO Max on Thursday, and talked about the weather playing an ‘incredible’ role.
While joining A Late Show with Stephen Colbert On Thursday night, Leto expressed how grateful he was to be a part of Snyder’s Justice League and refers to the “Snyder Cut” as “one for ages.” The film will mark Leto’s first return as the Joker after portraying the classic DC villain in 2016 Suicide squad.
Colbert was quick to mention how it is discussed that Leto in Justice League can be a ‘redemption’ to expand the character of the Joker. But Leto reiterated that he simply feels honored to be asked by Snyder to step into the iconic villain’s shoes again.
“I was just happy to be part of his dream and being asked to play the Joker for a second time was just a surprise,” Leto said. “It’s one of those roles that’s just amazing.”
During Leto’s appearance, he could be seen wearing a “We Live in a Society” shirt – Leto said the profits from the shirt would go to the American Suicide Prevention Foundation – as a tribute to a popular Joker -related meme and a rule he advertises. -loved in a now-infamous Justice League scene set in a new trailer for Snyder’s Justice League. The track by Leto reciting the rule went viral on social media and many fans were excited.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder gives Leto a tribute to the now iconic rule: “We went back and forth a bit, and I’ll give Jared credit for that little advertising lib there, because it was really very nice,” Snyder said.
The director also says that during the quarantine he wrote to him at Leto’s Joker scene. “It was based on a bunch of ideas I’ve had over the years,” he said. “I planted a bunch of Easter eggs in the other movies that I thought it was time to harvest in this scene.”
To further compare the original Joker portrayal of Leto with the new film, Colbert kept photos of the actor posing in the green hair of the character, with the skin covered with tattoos. Suicide Squad to the darker and scarier Joker in Justice League. In response to both photos, Leto explained that it shows that there are several years in between.
“I think it’s an evolution,” Leto said, adding that it’s common to work with another director to ‘bring out different things in you.’
Earlier in the day, Leto started Twitter to honor Snyder before the film’s release: “Zack, you’re a warrior and a crazy man. You know this world like no other and it was amazing to be a part of retelling this story that way which you’ve always dreamed of, “he writes with a photo of himself on set with the director.
Although Leto’s Joker revival was expected to revive, Deborah Snyder said THR that it took some time to secure the actor for the film. “Zack and Jared talked for a while,” the producer said. “Before we approached the studio, he wanted to make sure they were interested. At first it was like ‘No,’ and then it was like, ‘Well, maybe,’ and then Zack was like ‘Do you want’ to take the stage? see what I worked on? ”
Ben Affleck and Leto eventually shot their scenes separately due to scheduling issues, and the scene was completed more than three days late last year.
