Japanese woman ‘kept mother’s body in the freezer for ten years’

Police in Japan have arrested a woman after the body of her deceased mother was discovered in a freezer in her apartment.

Yumi Yoshino, 48, said she found her mother dead and hid the body ten years ago because she “did not want to move out” of the house in Tokyo they shared, local media reported, citing unnamed police sources. .

There were no visible wounds to the frozen body, police said.

Authorities could not determine the time and cause of the woman’s death.

The body was apparently discovered by a cleaner after Ms Yoshino was forced to leave the apartment due to missing rent payments.

Police said the body was bent in the freezer.

Ms Yoshino was arrested on Friday in a hotel in the city of Chiba, near Tokyo.
