January 28, 2021 No new COVID-19 deaths reported in Utah

And more than 2 million Utahns have been tested for the coronavirus.

No COVID-19 deaths were reported in Utah on Thursday – until the Department of Health later announced it was a bug. The report on zero deaths was ‘due to an error in data transfer’, the department said on Twitter.

Deaths that had to be reported on Thursday will be added to Friday’s count.

According to UDOH, the last day when no coronavirus-related deaths were recorded was September 15th.

But it was still the leading cause of death in Utah this week, both for the past nine months as well as last week, just behind heart disease and cancer, according to an analysis by Erin Clouse, a public health expert. at the University of Utah.

The week-long mortality rate for coronavirus surpassed cancer just a week or two ago, and it was even before heart disease until about Christmas.

There was about a month period from November to December, where COVID-19 was the leading cause of death per day in Utah, according to the analysis.

The state also reported Thursday that it has passed 2 million people tested – about 63% of Utah’s population.

Cases reported in the past day • 1,761.

Deaths reported in the past day • No.

Hospitalizations reported in the past day • 444. It’s eight from Wednesday. Of those currently admitted to the hospital, 157 are in intensive care units – four less than on Tuesday.

Tests reported in the past day • 10 917.

Percentage of positive tests • 16.13%. This is lower than the seven-day average of 18.26%.

Total to date • 342,445 cases; 1,620 deaths; 13,279 hospitalizations; 2,000,023 tests.
