The director of James Guard, ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’, seems to be approving of the online bashing of ‘The Mandalorian’ actress Gina Carano after she was fired by Disney over social media positions – despite his dismissal in 2018 of the helmende ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 “under similar conditions.
A viral mob that led a #FireGinaCarano campaign successfully ousted her from the Disney + series on Wednesday after sharing a post on Instagram comparing the current political divide in America to the hostility that led to the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany.
GINA CARANO DRAWS FEEDBACK FOR SOCIAL MEDIA POSITIONS, ‘NOT CURRENTLY EMPLOYING’ BY ‘STAR WARS’
Lucasfilm, which is owned by Disney, said in a statement from Variety that Carano “is not currently employed” by the company.
Carano fans and defenders took to social media to point out several examples of hypocrisy, from a tweet from her “Mandalorian” co-star Pedro Pascal comparing Nazi concentration camps to US migrant housing facilities to Disney’s continued business ties with China, even as the Beijing government puts Uighur Muslims in concentration camps. The studio even thanked officials from Xinjiang province, where the camps are, in the final credits of ‘Mulan’.
‘MANDALORY’ STAR GINA CARANO SPEAKS FROM SOCIAL MEDIA REBACK ON CONSERVATIVE, ANTI-MASK TWEETS
Amid the online battle, a tweet defending Gunn and beating Carano caught the attention of the filmmaker.
“Oh f * ck, do not drag @JamesGunn to this unfortunate trending topic,” entrepreneur Olga Kay wrote before celebrating Carano’s dismissal.
Gunn ‘liked’ that tweet.

In July 2018, tweets that resurfaced showed Gunn joking about rape and child abuse.
‘MANDALORY’ FAN’S BONED AFTER GINA CARANO IS FIRED, BUT PEDRO PASCAL WASN’T: ‘CLEAR HYPOCRISIS ON LUCASFILM’
“I like when little boys touch me in my silly place,” reads one tweet.
“The best thing about being raped is when you’ve been raped and it’s like ‘how it feels good not to be raped!'” Gunn wrote in another.
“The Expendables were so manly that I knocked out the shit of the little pussy next to me! The boys are back in town!” he joked in a 2010 tweet.

Gunn explained at the time that his tweets were attempts to be ‘challenging’ and ‘taboo’ and that he had repeatedly expressed regret over the years. Disney, however, fired Gunn from directing ‘Guardians’ amid public uproar, although he was later re-appointed as the director of the Marvel movie in March 2019. The film is currently planned for 2023.
