Earlier today, Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, announced a partnership with hip-hop mogul and billionaire Sean Carter, aka Jay-Z, to create a Bitcoin development fund initially focused on teams in India and Africa.
The donation will be called the ‘₿trust’ and the couple will start it with 500 bitcoin, which is currently valued at more than $ 23 million. ₿trust is currently recruiting three board members who are requesting Dorsey through the relatively informal platform Google Forms.
The board member application has a simple message at the top: “mission: make bitcoin the internet’s currency.” It can be filled in pseudonymously and it requires candidates to simply submit a free-form written description of their credentials under a field titled ‘proof of employment’.
Although details are still scarce, it is important to note at this point that the donation is set up as a blind, irrevocable trust. In other words, Dorsey and Carter will have no say in how the donation works.
The fact that this investment is partly focused on Africa should come as no surprise, as Dorsey has visited the continent several times already and even in 2020 estimated public plans to move to Africa before the world through the COVID -19 was stopped. pandemic.
Dorsey’s digital payment company, Square, has also worked to spur the development of Bitcoin with grants focused by its division, Crypto-currency.
