Ivanka Trump will not challenge Florida GOP Senator Marco Rubio for his U.S. Senate seat in 2022, a source close to President Trump’s daughter confirmed to CBS News.
That was a few weeks ago during a conversation between Ivanka Trump and Rubio – not long after riot at the Capitol in January 6 – when she informed him of her decision not to present.
In a statement provided to CBS News, Mr. Trump’s daughter, who was one of his top White House advisers, called the Florida senator a “good personal friend.”
“I know he will continue to make significant progress on issues that we are both very interested in,” she said.
Speculation among Florida politicians increased after Mrs. Trump, her husband, Jared Kushner, and their children, moved from New York to Sunshine State after the loss of her father to President Biden. The New York Times first reported that she would not run.
Another former White House senior official, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, has so far been the leading candidate in her race for the Arkansas governor. It has also been speculated that Lara Trump, the wife of Mr. Trump’s son, Eric Trump, could make a political move in North Carolina for the resignation of GOP Senator Richard Burr.
Rubio did not respond to a request for comment.
