In a world where everything is equal, it’s no problem that Matthew Stafford, Carson Wentz and Jared Goff are already off the board, as they could become the next quarterback of the Chicago Bears.
But that’s just because Deshaun Watson – the biggest fish on the market – still hasn’t moved.
Unfortunately, it will be very difficult to use him:

Longtime football insider Peter King rattles off all sorts of potential trading scenarios in which Watson is involved. It is even said that Chicago is a potential trading partner for Houston: “Chicago will definitely be interested,” King writes. “But the draft of 20th this year is a big negative, with no other QB than Nick Foles; the lack of significant young talent to pack together is also negative. “Ouch. It stings. But this is not entirely untrue, so take it as you please.
As for teams that can make proposals that King is worthy of, there are not many. Those he proposes on behalf of the teams are downright bonkers. Two are straight from the no-uh, it does not happen category:
A 7-for-1 deal from the Panthers, with RB Christian McCaffrey, WR Robbie Anderson, QB Teddy Bridgewater, two first-round picks, a second player, a third in 2022, and possibly pass-rusher Brian Burns.
⇒ Another skewed proposal via the Jets, including QB Sam Darnold, DL Quinnen Williams, two first rounds and two more second rounds (a 6-for-1 package).
⇒ There is a layer of ridiculousness that I would not even tackle in the wild three-way proposal between the 49ers, Vikings and Texans. King offers Minnesota to send Kirk Cousins to San Francisco, the Niners to Jimmy Garoppolo to the Texans, and Houston to Watson to Minnesota. There will be other choices and players will go in different ways. But it’s hard to imagine a trade where John Lynch does not get the most value on a trading card.
What would a Bears package that competes with the above even look like? First round picks in 2021, 2022 and 2023, LB Roquan Smith, WR Darnell Mooney, and more? Boy, how? It’s a spicy meatball. One that I am not quite ready to construct yet.
