Israeli study on Pfizer vaccine indicates 94% drop in symptomatic COVID-19 cases: report

A study by Israel’s largest healthcare provider on Sunday found that participants received two doses of coronavirus vaccine against Pfizer, according to a report a 94% drop in symptomatic COVID-19 infections.

Clalit, the health care system that covers most Israelis, compares 600,000 people who have received both doses of Pfizer vaccine against a group of the same size that is consistent with medical history and has not yet received the vaccine.

The study found that people in the group were also 92% less likely to develop serious illnesses due to the virus after getting both jabs, according to Reuters.

The data are almost consistent with Pfizer’s Phase 3 clinical trial, which shows that the vaccine is 95% effective.

“It shows unequivocally that Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccination is extremely effective in the real world a week after the second dose, just as it appears in the clinical study,” said Ral Balicer, head of innovation at Clalit.

Balicer added that the data showed that the Pfizer vaccine, developed in collaboration with German BioNTech, was even more ‘effective’ two weeks or more after the second survey, the news organization reported.

According to Bloomberg’s COVID-19 vaccine researcher, Israel is undergoing rapid vaccination, leading all countries with approximately 70.5 doses per 100 people.
