Israel is unlikely to achieve herd immunity against Covid-19, even if all adults are vaccinated, as there is currently no vaccine approved for children, Israel’s top public health official said on Sunday.

“The moment we have 2.5 million children who cannot be vaccinated, we are unlikely to achieve herd immunity, even if the entire population that can be vaccinated is vaccinated,” Sharon Alroy-Preis said during ” a parliamentary committee meeting said.

More than a third of the 9.3 million people living in Israel have had at least one dose Pfizer Inc.-BioNTech SE vaccine, and about one-fifth were fully vaccinated.
