New coronavirus variants have led Israel to impose strict travel restrictions.
The country recently announced that it will temporarily ban all flights entering or leaving the country. It was reported that the decision was made to prevent the spread of new strains of the coronavirus.

According to Reuters, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: “Apart from rare exceptions, we are hermetically sealing the air to prevent the entry of the virus variants and also to ensure that we make rapid progress with our vaccination campaign.”

Israel bans international passenger flights starting Monday, Reuters reports. The ban will apparently last for one week, which means that it will be in force until the end of January.

This news comes because it has recently been reported that a new coronavirus variant may pose a higher risk of death than the original strain. The variant was first discovered in south-east England and is considered to be more easily transmitted than the original.
A chief scientific adviser to the British government said on Friday that although the data were still uncertain, people infected with the new variant could be at increased risk for death.
Israel is not the only country considering strict action in response to the new tribes.

Fox News previously reported that Canada is considering quarantining travelers at their own expense at a hotel as they enter the country in response to new variants of the coronavirus.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said at a news conference on Friday that his government was prepared to draw up even stricter rules than the country already has in place.
