Is this combination 911 Turbo and Targa the best Lego set yet?

Lego and Porsche already have history. Do you remember the brilliantly detailed Technic sets of the 911 RSR and the GT3 RS? And then there were the little Speed Champions kits from the same RSR and the 911 Turbo 3.0. Everything is brilliant.

However, this latest collaboration would have yielded the largest car-related Lego series to date.

The basics are as follows. It’s a kit of 1,458 bricks containing what Lego calls ‘dual construction routes’. Essentially, it’s a two-in-one set that you can convert into a 930 911 Turbo with a whale tail or a 911 Targa with an open roof.

Fantastic is not it? Lego had to design new elements for the curved shoulder area on both cars and the rear arches on the Turbo, but almost all the others are an existing Lego brick. Even the rear glass on the Targa is made from six previous pieces.

The interior is beautifully brown and features 911’s rear seats, handbrake, gear lever and fully functional steering. The front seats tilt forward for proper access to the rear, and the engine compartment contains a proper relaxation of the glorious 3.0-liter flat-six engine. There is even a mini Lego turbocharger and a wider rear axle for the whale cutter.

Oh, and the Targa’s removable roof is straight into the front trunk, and there’s the option of silver or black Fuchs-like wheels. Tidy.

Early adopters who buy through LEGO’s VIP loyalty program also receive a club package from Lego Porsche owners with their set, which includes brilliant relaxation from the Porsche ads in the late seventies and early eighties.

The entire set with both construction routes costs £ 119.99 and will be part of the Lego Creator Expert range. What do we count, people?
