Is the new BMW M3 competition better than the Alfa Romeo Giulia QV?

The first reviews of the controversial 2021 BMW M3 appear and in this clip Piston Heads compares it to one of the best sports dances of the past year, the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio.

In this video, the flagship M3 competition variant appears, though not one equipped with the optional four-wheel drive system. It is finished in gray and if you can ignore the massive kidney grids, it definitely has an aggressive shape and a lot of presence on the road. Does it look as good as the Alfa Romeo? Of course not.

The M3 competition is a 3.0-liter turbocharged six with 503 hp, which perfectly matches the Giulia Quadrifoglio, which offers a 3.0-liter turbo V6 with exactly the same yields. Both are rear-wheel drive and use automatic transmissions, rather than dual-clutch gearboxes.

One of the first remarks the judge makes about the M3 relates to the drafting of his suspension. He says that even if he is driven in Comfort mode, the ride is solid, and asks if buyers in the UK will ever be able to change the suspension in its even more sturdy Sport and Sport + settings. He’s also not a big fan of how the new engine sounds, but does say that it’s very, very fast.

Compared to the previous generation M3, this new one handles much better and delivers a more refined driving experience. Of course, the eight-speed automatic transmission is not as funny as some with dual clutches, but it does the job.

However, can the brand new M3 competition beat the Giulia Quadrifoglio? Check out the full review to find out.
