Is Miami Beach Doctor Dead Due to Response to COVID-19 Vaccine?

MIAMI STRAND, Fla. There are still questions about the death of a 56-year-old doctor in Miami Beach who passed away on Sunday, just over two weeks after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine.

Gregory Michael, MD, on whose website he said he was practicing obstetrics and gynecology at Mount Sinai Medical Center, received the vaccine at the hospital on Dec. 18.

However, it is not clear if the 56-year-old doctor’s death is related to the shot, but an investigation is underway.

A Facebook message from Michael’s wife describes him as ‘very healthy’. On his website it is said that he was a diligent tournament and a great fisherman and also a rescue certified diver.

His wife said Michael noticed serious broken blood vessels at his feet and hands three days after receiving the shot, prompting him to go to the emergency room.

There he was diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenia, which prevents blood from clotting. After two weeks of treatment, she writes on the Facebook entry, Michael had a hemorrhage caused by the lack of platelets, which took his life within minutes.

She said her husband is a proponent of the vaccine.

A spokesman for Mount Sinai, which cited the restrictions on patient privacy, said in a statement:

“To the extent that we are aware of an incident involving any patient, the relevant agencies will be contacted immediately and we are fully cooperating.”

The Florida Department of Health has confirmed that they have referred the matter to the Centers for Disease Control for investigation. A CDC spokesman told Local 10 News that “they will evaluate the situation as more information becomes available and will be aware of what is known and what is needed.”

Vaccine manufacturer Pfizer-BioNTech responded in a statement saying they were aware of the death of a health worker 16 days after receiving a first dose. ‘We are actively investigating this matter, but do not believe there is currently a direct link with the vaccine. To date, no related safety signals have been identified in trials or vaccinations. ”

The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office said Michael’s cause of death had not yet been determined, saying the results could take several weeks.

The CDC, which has been tasked with reviewing vaccine safety, has stated that their thoughts are with the family. They added that “to date, more than 5 million people have received COVID-19 vaccinations in the United States.”

Dr. Michael’s family is currently asking for privacy.
