There is a iPhone 13 rumors keep popping up, and this is one that we hope is true. A new report claims that the fingerprint sensor that disappeared from Apple’s phones with the iPhone X in 2017 will take a turn with the iPhone 13.
Touch ID will not only be present on the iPhone 13, but the Barclays report claims that it will also be displayed under the phone.
This is not the first time we have heard rumors of Touch ID returning. Bloomberg published a similar report in January. But the Barclays report claims it is based on talks with various suppliers over the past few weeks.
The addition of an under-display scanner for Touch ID would mean a big change in terms of the iPhone design. Since 2017, we have been using Face ID to unlock our phones, something that has become less convenient now that we are wearing masks due to the coronavirus pandemic.
While Apple continues to avoid a fingerprint reader, competing phone makers have added on-screen sensors. Samsung’s flagship phones, including the Galaxy S21, has an in-display sensor, just like several other Android phones.
iPhone 13 to get smaller notch
MacRumors says that the research note from Andrew Gardiner, an analyst at Barclays, and three additional colleagues claim that new iPhone 13 models will also come with a smaller notch. This will have to make the performances on the iPhone 13 feel more immersive.
According to Barclays analysts, the iPhone 13 will include a “more rigorously integrated version of the current structured lighting system” to enable shrinkage. The notch has remained largely the same since its debut on the iPhone X to house the sensors that make Face ID possible.
What’s more, the phone’s LiDAR scanner remains an exclusive feature of iPhone 13’s Pro models, just like on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
With a smaller notch, extra security with Touch ID and Face ID, and whatever additional features Apple decides to introduce with the iPhone 13, the next generation iPhones can innovate more than previous versions. That would all come down to what Apple is offering in the coming months.
