- The iPhone 13 will reportedly display an always-on screen, allowing you to quickly review notifications, battery level and time.
- Apple will introduce several camera upgrades, including an enhanced ultra-wide lens, an astrophotography mode and a portrait video mode.
- The iPhone 13 design has a matte surface with better grip, as well as stronger magnets for MagSafe charging.
A major iPhone 13 leak has revealed an ever-presentable version, design changes and some clever new photography modes.
Being able to see the time and notifications without picking up the phone is common on Android devices, but this is the first time for iPhones. You can also expect Apple to extend its lead on our best camera phone list and some welcome design upgrades.
There’s some interesting information from the latest video posted by YouTuber EverythingApplePro and leaker Max Weinbach. The juiciest lick, however, is the always-on display.
iPhone 13 is always displayed
The display looks like a simplified lock screen and will always show the clock and battery level, comparable to that on the Apple Watch 6, and offers some small customization options.
To save battery life, notifications will only activate the part of the screen where the warning appears and just shortly before it is turned off again.
Weinbach also said that the iPhone 13 Pro models may have an LTPO 120Hz screen, just like the Samsung Galaxy S21. But this is a rumor that we have heard from several reliable sources.
iPhone 13 camera upgrades
We can also expect some camera upgrades. The most important hardware change is a better ultra-wide camera on all models. This is thanks to a new sensor, plus a six-part (higher than five-part) lens that will help make shots less likely to distort.
Within the camera app itself, Apple is going to set a dedicated astrophotography mode. Similar to how night mode is activated when you are in a poor light environment, you will activate this mode when you point the phone at the stars or the moon, with the settings to record the night sky in more detail.
The latest new feature that EverythingApplePro unveils is a portrait video mode. It provides an unclear background of video recordings when activated, but you will be able to adjust the depth of field to the recording so that you can get it right. No details are given on whether it can be used on any of the iPhone 13s’ cameras or on a few select cameras.
iPhone 13 design customizations
Since this year’s iPhone is widely regarded as only a minor upgrade from the iPhone 12, the flattering design follows again. However, according to EverythingApplePro, there are some differences in the store.
Some models will get a new matte back with a ‘slightly more gripping texture’, similar to the one on the back of the Google Pixel 5. This probably refers to the Pro models, as the iPhone 12 Pro has a matte back while the basic iPhone 12 has a shiny finish, though Apple may decide to change that.
Beneath the surface of the next iPhone, Apple will be swapping out current MagSafe magnets for more power, making it easier to attach a MagSafe charger or accessory. Weinbach claims that these new magnets will not affect the thickness of the phone, although EverythingApplePro mentions that the Japanese outlet MacOtakara said that there will be a slight increase in the thickness to offset the new magnets.
The video also mentions some other Apple accessories. The AirTags trackers finally arrive in March or April, with the related software already introduced. Meanwhile, the mental health tracking features on the Apple Watch 7 are ready to appear in early 2022.
