There are a busy nine months of iPhone 13 rumors ahead of the expected unveiling of the device in September 2021, and the latest unconfirmed whispers we get suggest that the phone will bring a subtle design tweak.
Well-known and usually trusted Japanese store MacOtakara reports that the iPhone 13 will have a smaller notch at the top of the front, with a more compact TrueDepth camera for Face ID that enables Apple to make the cutout less prominent.
According to vendors who spoke with MacOtakara, the phone is also about 0.26 mm (0.01 inch) thicker according to the vendors with MacOtakara, but apparently the rear camera hump will remain as the camera module also gets bigger .
MacOtakara claims that the entire rear camera unit is covered in sapphire crystal, and the iPhone 13 Pro has the same camera module as the iPhone 13 Pro Max – that means sensor-shifted optical image stabilization and all.
The iPhone 13 story so far
Talks about a smaller notch for the iPhone 13 have surfaced before – as Apple gets better at miniature and tightly packing components, it’s logical that the forward camera components will take up less space year after year.
Most other manufacturers are still working on the punch hole design on display to accommodate the front camera, but everyone – including Apple – wants to remove caps completely with on-screen camera technology.
Even with the launch date now over, we are starting to see rumors and leaks around the iPhone 13 seeping in. Some of the features we thought could come out on the iPhone 12 – such as 120Hz display speeds – are indicated country earlier this year.
Camera upgrades are also expected: new iPhones, of course, always offer improved cameras, and by 2021, LiDAR technology is expected to expand to every device in the iPhone range, rather than being exclusive to the Pro models.
