Iowa Wrestler Austin DeSanto was removed from Saturday night after the incident after game

ST. LOUIS (KCRG) – Iowa wrestler Austin DeSanto will not take part in the team’s ceremonies on Saturday night after an incident with NCAA media officials that took place after his game on Saturday.

Iowa coach Tom Brands issued the following statement:

‘Austin DeSanto will not be attending the NCAA Parade of All-Americans or Medal Ceremony on Saturday night. DeSanto acted improperly toward the NCAA media officers as they left the mat this afternoon and after consultation with the NCAA Wrestling Committee and our administration, we made an institutional decision to withhold him from tonight’s activities. ”

DeSanto issued the following statement in response:

‘My behavior towards the NCAA media officers before the interview after the game was wrong, and I owe it to everyone involved. My language and behavior were inappropriate and inexcusable. I talked to Tom and I understand and agree with the decision. ”

DeSanto won two games on Saturday and ended its tournament 5-1, finishing in 3rd place.

The Spencer Lee, Jaydin Eierman and Michael Kemerer of Iowa will wrestle in the championship games on ESPN on Saturday night at 6 p.m.
