IOS 14 pro tip: One setting change for better photos

Having a new kitten means I take a lot more pictures. But it’s hard to get a good picture of something that is constantly moving and tingling (even when you are sleeping).

And it’s made all the more difficult because Apple has hidden a handy camera app feature.

If you pressed the shutter button in the Camera app before iOS 14, the iPhone would go into “burst mode” and take a bunch of photos that allowed me to go back and find the best one.

But now, in iOS 14, enter the shutter button and switch it to video recording mode. This in itself is a nice feature, but I want the old “burst mode” feature back.

It’s there, but again it’s hidden. And it has also changed the way it works.

Go to Settings> Camera and you will see an institution named Use Volume Up for Burst.

Instead of holding down the relax button, I have to remember to hold down the volume up button.

But it’s nice to be able to quickly choose between recording a batch of photos or recording a quick video.

This is a nice change. And I really like having a physical button to push. It’s easier to find and gives me proper tangible feedback, other than a button on the screen.

UPDATE: A reader sent me a note via Twitter (thanks, thanks Wolfgang!) to point out that there is another way to access the “burst mode”, and hold it down while moving the button to the left at the same time when it is in portrait mode or in landscape mode .
