Interview with Meghan and Harry: Prince William says royals ‘very much not a racist family’

The Duke of Cambridge asked a reporter during a visit to a school in east London whether the royals were a ‘racist family’, saying: ‘We are very much not a racist family.’

Harry and Meghan, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, made a series of damning accusations against the royal family in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in the United Kingdom on Monday night.

Asked if he had spoken to his brother since the interview with Oprah Winfrey, Prince William said: “I have not spoken to him yet, but I will.”

The interview of Harry and Meghan turned the palace upside down and sparked a nationwide debate about the royals, race and the role of the media in the perpetuation of xenophobia.

In the interview, the Duchess said the skin color of the couple’s child, Archie, was discussed as a possible issue before his birth. The couple declined to say who made the remarks.

In the interview, Meghan described that during her short time she had suicidal thoughts as a working royal, and said that the palace provided her and her son with insufficient security and protection.

Buckingham Palace broke its silence on Tuesday night and said in a statement on behalf of the Queen that the allegations of racism were “taken very seriously”.

“The whole family is sad to know how challenging Harry and Meghan have been over the past few years,” the statement said.
