Intel Dunks on Apple’s Dongles in Continued Anti-M1 Mac Campaign

Intel continues its anti-Apple advertising campaign, and today shares a tweet mentioning the lack of ports on M1 Macs. In one photo, actor Justin Long sits on a bench with a Windows computer and holds up a handful of Apple dongles.

Apple’s Macs have long been ridiculed for the lack of ports and the need to use dongles for various accessories and displays. Since 2016, Macs have only included USB-C ports, and Apple has removed HDMI ports, USB-A ports, and SD card readers in its notebook series. However, that will change in 2021, with rumors suggesting that Apple will introduce new MacBook Pro models that again have an SD card reader and an HDMI port.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who shared Apple’s future port plans in January, said that in the future “most users may not need to buy extra dongles.”

The ad follows a number of anti-M1 Mac videos that Intel shared yesterday with Justin Long, who was previously in the famous “I’m a Mac” Apple ads. In the videos, Long promotes Intel-based computers, which emphasize their gaming capabilities, touch screens and other features.

Intel’s ads come as Apple moves the Intel series off Intel chips. Apple released the ‌M1‌ chip in the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini in November, and there are still Apple silicone chips on the way. Over the next two years, Apple plans to move away from Intel chips altogether.

The Justin Long ads are not the first anti-Apple ad shared by Intel. In February, Intel launched a campaign on Twitter trying to point out the shortcomings of ‌M1‌ Macs. Intel seems to feel threatened by Apple’s chip options. ‌M1‌ chips received a lot of attention during the launch due to their impressive speed and efficiency, which Intel chips could not match.

Apple has even faster chips on the way, and Intel will be able to shout little once MacBook Pro models with the next generation of Apple silicone chips and a range of ports are available.
