Indonesian monsoon floods: More than 1,300 forced to evacuate Jakarta

Reuters reports that heavy rains over several areas in Indonesia’s capital forced evacuation on Saturday.

The whole picture: The country’s meteorological agency has warned that conditions are expected to worsen as the heaviest rain of the season could fall in and around Jakarta next week, according to Reuters.

  • Officials said early Saturday that about 200 neighborhoods had been affected by the flooding.
  • According to Reuters, floodwaters in some areas reached almost 6 meters high.
  • The news agency noted that floods are coming because the country is still seeing a large number of cases of coronavirus.
