Indiana University sorority investigated for alleged sex, drug hazing

An Indiana University authority is investigating allegations of sexual and drug-related exposure rituals, a report said.

Promises at the Delta chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma were allegedly forced to take part in an activity called ‘blow or blow’ – where they were told to choose between sniffing a line of cocaine or performing oral sex on a man, according to the Indiana Daily Student.

“Get on your knees! The boys are coming,” former principal Langdan Willoughby recalled as a senior sister shouted at her about 50 other promises.

Allegedly, the promises were made to remain silent and stand in silence in the basement, while senior sisters dressed in lingerie ran around screaming, laughing and wooden spades before finally being told that the sex-and-drug activity a joke.

Willoughby told the Indiana Daily Student that she was “completely physically, emotionally and mentally disturbed by the whole thing”, and left the sorority last summer because of these events, and because of issues of inclusion and racism that she experiences as one of the only black women in the house.

Two other women who were present that evening but remained anonymous for fear of retaliation confirmed important details.

Other women from the 2017 and 2019 promise classes spoke anonymously to the Indiana Daily Student, describing similar events that occurred during those years.

In 2017, the promise class was told to go out naked and run into the woods, which sisters turned out to be a joke when one member of the promise class started crying.

In 2019, drunk senior sisters verbally disputed promises and called them ‘sluts’ and shouted other insults, for about 15 minutes in a ‘scary’ event that left several women in tears.

All the women said that these events take place on Kappa Kappa Gamma’s Big Little Night, an annual event when promises are linked to an older member of the women’s care as their “Big Sister” and mentor.

The Indy Star announced a day after the student newspaper broke the story, its national organization in an email statement that an investigation into the allegations is pending.

“Delta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma at Indiana University is one of our longest chapters, but we will not stand by it as cases of violence or the threat of violence continue among our membership. The health and safety of our members is always our top priority, ”says the organization.

IU spokesman Chuck Carney also announced by email that the university had placed an interim measure of the sorority on ‘cease and desist’, suspending all organizational activities.

The organization is one of the three Greek life organizations at the university that were discontinued in 2020-2021 and in addition to eight other Greek life organizations that were completely suspended.

Until now, the Delta Chapter was the oldest Kappa Kappa Gamma chapter in the country that is continuously active. The chapter has never publicly commented – or posted anything on the normally active Instagram – since the allegations came to light.
