Indian railway worker saves child from oncoming train

The CCTV video, posted on Twitter by the Indian Ministry of Railways, shows a station worker running at Vangani station in Mumbai to rescue a child while an oncoming train was driving towards them.

The worker lifts the child onto the platform moments before the train would ride.

The ministry praised the employee, scorer Mayur Shelkhe, as a ‘good Samaritan’.

“We salute his exemplary courage and greatest dedication to duty,” they added in the tweet.

Indian Railways is the world’s fourth largest railway operator and India’s largest employer.

Why India's train network is so deadly
On March 25, 2020, the railway network was suspended for the first time in 167 years when Prime Minister Narendra Modi imposed a nationwide exclusion due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The following month, the railway operator planned to convert as many as 20,000 old train carriages into isolation halls for patients as the virus spread.

India is currently dealing with a deteriorating second wave coronavirus. According to the Indian Ministry of Health, the country reported 261,500 new cases on Sunday – its highest one day so far.
