A rooster equipped with a knife for an illegal cockfight killed its owner in southern India.
The owner of the bird was stabbed in the groin by the knife when the animal tried to escape. The man died on the way to hospital from blood loss.
Police are now looking for another 15 people involved in the incident, which took place earlier this week in the town of Lothunur in the state of Telangana.
The animal was detained in a police station before being transferred to a farm.
Police said the animal was ready to take part in a fight when he tried to escape. The owner tried to catch it, but was struck by the 7 cm long (three inches) knife on the leg of the animal during the fight.
Those involved in the event are facing charges of manslaughter, illegal connection and hosting a cockfight, the AFP news agency reported.
Local police officer B Jeevan told The New Indian Express according to the New Indian Express that the animal would be taken as evidence later.
Cockfighting was made illegal in India in 1960, but fighting is still relatively common in rural areas like Telangana, with many falling around the Hindu festival of Sankranti.
This is not the first time an owner has been killed by their cock. Last year, a man in Andhra Pradesh died after being hit in the neck by the blade of his cock.
According to CNN, the owner was taking his cock to a cockfight when the incident occurred.
