India on Thursday reported 314,835 new Covid-19 infections, the highest daily increase in cases worldwide since the pandemic began.

The country also recorded its highest number of new deaths in Covid-19 with 2,104 deaths.

The clear figures come as health care and other essential services in India near collapse amid a second coronavirus wave tearing through the country at a devastating speed.

The Union Territory of Delhi on Wednesday received less than half the oxygen needed to treat Covid-19 patients, with 200-250 tonnes of oxygen at a requirement of 700 tonnes, the Delhi Government’s lawyer said in the High Court on Wednesday. said.

According to a petition from the Bajaj Medical and Research Center, which runs a chain of private hospitals, five of its hospitals in Delhi have between two and 18 hours of oxygen supply left.
