Over the weekend, a volcano called Fagradalsfjall, near Iceland’s capital Reykjavik, erupted. It is an eruption that Icelanders have been expecting for several weeks, and fortunately no one was injured as a result.

This is the first time the volcano has erupted in 800 years.

In the aftermath of the eruption, incredible footage of the volcano and the lava was released from it. The results are absolutely gobsmacking.

This drone material, shot by Bjorn Steinbekk, is perhaps the best of the lot. It’s staggering.

There is also a live stream set up to enable people to view the volcano online. It is currently still being broadcast. Nothing but respect for the scientists who instituted the one.

At the time of writing, the volcano glows in the dark, creating a proper hellish set of orange colors. It’s worth it to be hypnotized by at least for a few minutes.

A second live stream, from a much further distance, has also been introduced.

For those of you who just want the highlights, this timeline of footage is amazing.

The night time course is even more convincing …

Eventually, this image and the accompanying photography come incredibly close to the volcano and its effects.
