In GM’s Super Bowl ad, Will Ferrell challenges US to export Norway

General Motors has just released its first ad during Super Bowl 55, and we now have the answer to why Will Ferrell likes Norway so much. If you’ve watched the teaser, you know the theory I put forward was correct.

Ferrell is working with co-comedians Kenan Thompson and Awkwafina (Nora Lum) to travel to Norway in an effort to give the country some of its thoughts when it comes to the Scandinavian country’s wild acceptance of electric cars. Ferrell and GM think the US can do so much better. In Norway, more than half of all cars sold are electric. Here in the US, the figure is only 4% according to GM’s data. In essence, GM wants to gather the troops at home to have them pumped for a bunch new EVs coming by 2025. You will also get shots of the Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EV throughout – just two of the 30 models to come, according to the current number of cars.

GM sends out the message with Ferrell’s distinctive brand of silly comedy that is hard not to enjoy, although the fact that none of the crew actually ends up in Norway beats the message a bit. Nevertheless, it’s a Super Bowl-appropriate laugh that further expands the latest automaker ‘Everyone in’ marketing message. The carmaker promises that it’s serious about putting more Americans in electric cars, and it’s coming on the heels of the Biden Administration also throws its weight behind power sources without release.
