In a wonderful report, CDC says that only one child died of the flu this season

As more than 28 million cases of coronavirus in the US have been confirmed with 520,000 deaths during the coronavirus pandemic, the flu season was virtually unstable this year.

According to data of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), only 0.1 percent of the samples tested across the country return positive for flu. This is in stark contrast to about 20 to 30 percent of the positive cases recorded during recent flu seasons.

The CDC too reports that only one child in the U.S. died of the flu this season, compared to 195 U.S. children who died in total during the 2019-2020 flu season.

There has also been a significant decrease in flu deaths among U.S. adults, with about 450 deaths related to flu so far this year. Rofweg 22 000 people die during the flu season 2019-2020.

Public health experts say the closure of the school, remote work and precautions such as hand washing, masking and social removal caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, have probably led to the very low number of flu cases, deaths and hospitalizations.

In December, the CDC said a record number of flu vaccinations had been administered after public health officials urged the public to get the flu shot and warned of a “twindemy” of both hospitals with flu and COVID-19.

“I think it’s clearly shown that masking, distancing, hand washing – all of these things clearly work,” said Aaron Milstone, an epidemiologist and professor of pediatrics at Johns Hopkins University. The Washington Post. “So I think the question will be how many people have the appetite to prevent flu instead of just COVID.”

However, health officials have warned that the next flu season could be extraordinarily worse, as people are not exposed to the flu this year and are more susceptible to infection.
