The NFL has announced its 2021 Compensatory Draft Choices, which now include special compensatory choices that reward teams for the development of minority coaches and managers.
The choice this year is from the third to sixth round. As the CBA limited the number of compensatory picks to the number of clubs in the league at 32, there were seven teams that qualified for a pick but did not receive it in the Hawks, Bears, Colts, Vikings, Eagles, Steelers and Buccaneers not. . But only Indianapolis did not get a choice at all, because the free agent lost was 33rd or lower in the formula used to generate choices.
The Cowboys have a league highlight of four compensatory concepts in 2021, with one each in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth rounds. Dallas lost Byron Jones, Robert Quinn, Randall Cobb, Xavier Su’a-Filo and Jeff Heath and Jason Witten in free agencies last year.
Five special compensatory picks were awarded at the end of the third round – one for the 49ers, one for the Rams, one for the Ravens and one for the Saints. Those each come from a different team that appoints a minority to their organization to be head coach or general manager. The NFL initially announced a wrong number for San Francisco’s special picks with two this year instead of one. While Robert Saleh becomes the Jets head coach and Martin Mayhew becomes Washington’s GM, San Francisco will have a special compensatory choice for the next three years.
The Falcons and packers each have three regular compensatory choices. The Panthers, Bears, Chiefs, Rams, Vikings, Patriots, Saints and Eagles have two. The Ravens, Chargers, Steelers, 49ers, Buccaneers and Titans have one.
The regular picks of the third round went to the Patriots (No. 96), Chargers (No. 96), Saints (No. 98), Cowboys (No. 99), Titans (No. 100) and Rams (No. 100). 101). ).
The special compensatory choice was for the 49ers (No. 102), Rams (No. 103), Ravens (No. 104) and Saints (No. 105).
