Illinois COVID update today: IL reports 3,751 new cases, 81 deaths

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois health officials reported 3,751 new COVID-19 cases and 81 deaths on Wednesday.

The total number of cases in Illinois now stands at 1,112,181, with a total of 18,964 deaths, since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the past 24 hours, laboratories reported 80,124 samples for a total of 15,633,443.

As of Tuesday night, it was reported that 2,931 patients in Illinois were in the hospital with COVID-19. Of these, 591 patients were in the ICU and 300 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

The preliminary seven-day positive test test positivity from January 20 to 26 is 5.6%.

The test positivity rate is a measure that the state started providing at the end of October. It is calculated by using the total number of positive tests above the total number of tests. This is the yardstick by which state health officials are accustomed to making decisions about mitigation.

A total of 1,253,300 doses of vaccine were delivered to suppliers in Illinois, including Chicago, with an additional 537,050 doses allocated to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number in Illinois to 1,790,350.

IDPH reports that a total of 773,623 vaccine doses were administered, including 117,983 at long-term facilities. The rolling average of vaccines administered over seven days is 33,698.

The IDPH says that the distribution numbers of vaccines are reported in real time and that the number of vaccines lags by as much as 72 hours.

On Wednesday morning, Governor JB Pritzker visited a mass vaccination center at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake.

“This site is not only built to meet the current limited supply needed, but also to grow as more and more doses come from the federal government,” Governor Pritzker said.

With Illinois in Phase 1B, people over 65 and many essential workers are now eligible to receive the vaccine. This includes about 3.2 million people.

The Illinois National Guard will assist in half a dozen suburbs with vaccinations at Cook County health centers. There are more deployments across the state.

Officials said the protection sites would take 1B appointments from Monday as pharmacies at hundreds of Walgreens, CVS and Jewel locations.

Walgreens provides vaccines at 92 locations across the state and appointments can be made on their website, while Jewel-Osco is eligible for eligible residents on Tuesday with appointments on their website.

Governor JB Pritzker said there are plans to start boarding as soon as the supply of vaccine increases.

On Monday, Governor Pritzker and President of the Cook Council, Toni Preckwinkle, toured the Tinley Park Convention Center, which is preparing to become a mass vaccination site.

Governor Pritzker has announced the creation of a new portal, coronavirus.illinois.gov, to provide the latest information on vaccines.

‘Today, as we begin the latest phase of our vaccine administration plan for essential workers and 65-year-olds, I’m proud to announce the nationwide vaccination detector, which can be searched by zip code and city at coronavirus.illinois.gov, “said Governor JB Pritzker.” This site will serve as a focal point for all vaccine-related information, guiding residents to the home pages of the 97 local health departments and our pharmacy partners, which list hundreds of locations across the country will occupy. It also contains information about our first Illinois National Wagmass Vaccination Site, tomorrow at the Tinley Park Convention Center, will be updated as more state-owned sites and hundreds of additional local options come online. Since the federal supply is currently limited and every state in the country has a shortage, I must appeal to all eligible Illinois residents to regularly look back at available appointments – and in the meantime keep mask, keep distance, us wash our hands and remember that we will stay healthy and safe if we take care of each other. ‘
