Illinois COVID update today: IL reports 1,068 new cases of coronavirus, 14 deaths

CHICAGO (WLS) – Illinois Department of Public Health officials on Sunday reported 1,068 newly confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 14 deaths.

IDPH reported a total of 1,198,335 COVID-19 cases, including 20,763 deaths since the onset of the pandemic.

As of Saturday night, 1441 patients were reported to have been hospitalized in Illinois with COVID-19. Of these, 255 patients were in the ICU and 112 patients with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

Within the past 24 hours, laboratories reported testing 68,094 samples for a total of 18,640,190 since the pandemic began.

The preliminary seven-day positive test positivity from 28 February to 6 March is 2.3%.

A total of 3,824,675 doses of vaccine were delivered to suppliers in Illinois, including Chicago, with another 443,700 doses allocated to federal government partners for long-term care facilities, bringing the total number delivered in Illinois to 4,268,375.

When can children get COVID vaccine?

IDPH reports that a total of 3,358,214 doses of vaccine were administered, including 344,569 at long-term facilities. The running average of vaccines administered over seven days is 98,183.

On Saturday, a dose of 98,550 vaccines was administered.

Illinois’ first case of a more contagious COVID-19 variant from Brazil was identified in a patient in Chicago.

Researchers at Northwestern Medicine said they first identified P.1. variant, which was first found earlier this year among travelers from Brazil during an airport show in Tokyo. The Brazilian variant has since been found in several other countries.

The deaths reported on Saturday include:
– Cook County: 2 men 40s, 1 60s female, 1 man 60s, 1 80s male
– Kankakee County: 1 man 60s

– Kendall County: 1 female 70s
– Lake County: 1 male 70’s
– Livingston County; 1 female 60s
– Madison County: 1 40-year-old woman, 1 60-year-old woman
– Massac County: 1 man 70’s
– Peoria County: 1 80-year-old woman
– Will County: 1 80-year-old man
