Now a sign has been placed at the entrance of the popular beach hotel.

The sign reads: “We are increasingly concerned about the safety of our dedicated employees and valued customers and the city’s ability to maintain a safe environment.”

The document further states that they will consequently close their doors until next week.

“I do not blame them for wanting to close,” said Dan Gelber, mayor of Miami Beach.

Gelber says he has been working for years to renovate South Beach in a more family-friendly environment and says the increasing crime is due to the party atmosphere that is now synonymous with South Beach.

‘We made this area an all-and-go environment, it’s a kind of play, play, play area instead of a work-play living area. So I want to diversify there, so it’s not just 105 bars open until 5am. ”

To help control the crowd and prevent similar incidents, Miami Beach police have increased their patrols and implemented a policy of non-tolerance.

Miami Beach Police spokesman Ernesto Rodriguez said: ‘In the past 5 1/2 weeks, we’ve seen more than 900 arrests here in our city. We issued more than 5,000 traffic quotes. Last night alone, nearly two dozen arrests were made in our entertainment area alone. ”

Fifty percent of the arrests are people from outside the state, 374 from Miami-Dade, 94 from Miami Beach, 141 homeless, 78 living elsewhere in Florida.

Miami Beach police have partnered with several law enforcement agencies to help patrol the beach and help those arrested.

‘This is a dangerous situation for our community. “This is a dangerous situation for officers and that is why it is important that we act quickly and use tactics such as peppercorns to disperse crowds,” Rodriguez said.
