IKEA is now making small houses. And fortunately for activated millennial furniture owners everywhere, you do not need the disposable wrench. It has already been built.
The Swedish furniture company is experimenting with prefabricated houses through their Ikea Tiny Home project and selling 187 square meter homes on flat trailers.
The Little House Attempt is a partnership with Vox Creative and RV Builder Escape.
Currently, the only available model is the IKEA version of Escape’s Boho XL Wide model, which starts at $ 47,550. That’s about 368 POÄNG chairs, for all who count.
Features in the IKEA version – which keeps an eye on neutral colors, durability and that certain cozy touch – include kitchen cabinets made from recycled plastic bottles, built-in furniture and a collapsible desk, according to Lonely Planet. The XL has room for a queen-size bed, as well as living, kitchen and bathrooms, according to Escape’s promotional video.
A virtual tour shows the window-filled space with IKEA cabinets and products.
“How I started really outlined all the needs for the space,” said Abbey Stark, senior leader in interior design at IKEA, in a promotional video. ‘How, how do you design a wheel and the mechanics of the house well? I wanted to obtain renewable, reusable and recycled materials, if possible, to make the space functional as well as beautiful. ”
Small houses are furious among eco-conscious minimalist types, and have even managed to stay through the pandemic fashion, if the last thing anyone wants is a smaller space.
But with fringe benefits, including the trailer, compostable toilet and solar panels, the small IKEA cottage has the job, everywhere many sought after during the pandemic.
