If your Pixel 5’s system sounds are annoyingly loud, a new update may resolve the issue

As part of its Pixel updates in January, Google may have fixed an issue that means the Pixel 5 system sounds may be much louder than you would have liked.

Since the launch of the Pixel 5 in October, many users on Reddit and Google’s own support forums have reported that the Pixel 5 system sounds (such as the shutter of the camera or the sound you hear when you take a screenshot) can be quite loud be even if the phone volume is set to a lower level.

However, in the release notes for the Pixel updates in January, Google says that the Pixel 5-specific update ‘contains further tuning and improvements to the volume of the system sounds’. Some users on Reddit have reported that the system sounds are much quieter after installing the update, although some say that the sounds also silent now.

The release notes also include a list of other changes, including auto-brightness improvements on the Pixel 4A, 4A 5G and 5. Here’s Google’s full list of “significant fixes” in the January updates:

Google says the updates are now starting on all supported Pixel devices using Android 11.
